Our Place - Your Christian Church at Orenco Station will be a dynamic & exciting group of people from the greater Portland area who live to ENJOY, EXPERIENCE, EQUIP, & EXPAND God's Kingdom in Portland & Beyond! No frowning sticks in the mud here - from young to old, we will really ENJOY loving God, living life, serving our community & reaching people! And we won't just play church - we'll really help each other EXPERIENCE God in our lives - through practical & inspirational teaching from God's Word, incredible music, authentic relationships & life-changing decisions of faith & devotion! We're on a God-sized adventure - so we'll EQUIP each other for life's most significant endeavors, to know & love God, to serve & help others, and to lead out in the church and in the world! And we won't stop at our 4 walls - we will EXPAND God's Kingdom in Portland and beyond by helping people follow God and by starting new, healthy & dynamic churches! Simply put, Our Place is a place that values the enjoyment of seeking and following God with others!
Our Place - Your Christian Church will celebrate its grand opening Sunday, October 21st, 2001 at 10am at R.A. Brown Middle School. The Church held its frist three preview services in September and October. on the 14th of October, the Church had its commissioning service at Beaverton Christian Church. We are thankful to R.A. Brown Middle School for allowing us to use their facility. We are also very excited to move forward in our plans to acquire permanent facilities in the Orenco Station area next to the new Costco at 48th & Cornell.
The Launch Team is a growing group of people committed to the new church. They are meeting on a weekly basis to help develop the ministries necessary to start this new church. Now in Portland to start & lead a new church in the exciting, new, hi-tech, affluent, young community of Orenco Station, Steve has had to really search the heart of God to discover what it really means to be a church. I mean really, what is a church? Why does the church exist? Seriously, with the mountains and the coast & the raging rivers within an hour, why would he or anyone want or need to go to a place called "church" when he could be out riding his motorcycle or hitting the slopes with his board or playing his guitar and performing his music? Steve poured himself into God's words in the Bible and looked to his own life experience to discover some of the answers to his own questions. He remembers that he tried all his life to fit in with the jocks, hoods, preps, or whoever he could fit in with. And yet he didn't fit in anywhere. But when his parents dragged him off to church, it was in this one place where he didn't want to fit in where he really fit...as much as he tried to turn them off to him, the people there, young and old, made him feel like he was really valuable, really needed, like he really fit with a real purpose in life. Because of the joy of these people's lives, church wasn't just 'their place' anymore, but what Steve would call, 'my place', really, 'our place.' Because these people really sought to know God's forgiveness & grace, he began to experience God's grace too...he began to see & hear & feel God in real ways, and he entrusted his faith and his life to Jesus. Because these people wanted to help equip each other in how to live this magnificent adventure of life with God, they helped him to grow in his faith. These people helped him to serve others with his life. And soon they even encouraged him to lead out among them. And today, God's kingdom has expanded just a little bit in the world through Steve's life and words. He has helped many people come to know Christ in deeper ways and now he is helping to start a new church to help more people find God's place in their lives.
